Tree trimming and pruning in Rome
When a careful cut beats taking the whole tree.
Plenty of trees that look like removals are better trimmed: a healthy oak with one dead limb over the drive, a maple scraping the gutters, a crown that needs lifting so a truck can pass. Good pruning takes out what's dead, crossing or in the way and leaves the tree's shape intact.

Published prices
| Tree height | Typical cost per tree |
|---|---|
| Under 30 ft | $80 to $420 |
| 30 to 60 ft | $210 to $790 |
| Above 60 ft | $470 to $1,840 |
Lawn Love puts the typical job at $412 to $612 per tree. Several trees on one visit can cost less each, while trees near power lines, buildings or water cost more. It calls winter the best season for trimming, and also a busy one.
Where trimming stops
- Branches near power lines. Inside 10 feet of a line over 750 volts, the work belongs to the utility or a crew it has cleared. Georgia Power says its own contractors prune to ANSI and International Society of Arboriculture standards.
- Around meters and transformers. North Georgia EMC asks members to keep flowers and bushes at least five feet from meters, pad-mounted transformers and poles.
- Pines under beetle attack. The Forestry Commission's advice for an active beetle spot is cutting, not pruning. See the pest guide.

Spraying or injecting trees
If the job includes a pesticide treatment, Georgia's Department of Agriculture requires anyone applying pesticides to another person's property for a fee to hold both a Commercial Applicator License and a Pesticide Contractor License. The department has an online search for active licensed contractors.
Common questions
Is trimming cheaper than removal?
Often, not always. Lawn Love's trimming ranges start lower than Angi's removal ranges at every height, but its top figure for trimming a tree over 60 feet ($1,840) is above Angi's top figure for removing a 60 to 80 foot tree ($1,500).
Get your trimming priced
Ring the number or send the form. A tree removal contractor working Rome and Floyd County follows up, comes to see the tree and names a price. Requesting one is free.
